North Carolina Road Trip Pt 1: Cows and Sea Shells

During Christmas break this year, two of my roommates from my Disney College Program and I decided to reunite and travel together for a week! We planned out a road trip starting and ending in Atlanta, Georgia and hitting the beach and the mountains in North Carolina along the way. The week was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed seeing more of the world with such good friends!

Shane and I started our trip at 12:30am on Thursday, December 27. I got off work at 11:30pm, and our flight left super early, so we decided to just leave when I got home instead of trying to get up after sleeping for an hour or two. We drove to Kansas City, after stopping at Taco Bell of course, and parked at the airport. We parked around 3:00am, and by the time we got off the bus from the parking lot, we only had to sit and wait about 20 minutes for security to open at 4:00.

Our flight left at 5:30am, and I managed to maybe get an hour of sleep on the plane, going in and out of consciousness. When we landed, we navigated the busiest airport in the world and Lauren picked us up outside! Chey’s flight was late, so we decided to go somewhere for a quick breakfast while we waited. Lauren took us to the original Chick-fil-A, which is a sit-down restaurant. I got waffle fries, because chicken isn’t vegan haha. We caught up some, then left to pick up Chey!

Once everyone was together again- cue happy music- we left Atlanta and headed towards our first Airbnb, in the middle of nowhere, South Carolina! We played our favorite music and talked about life and it was so much fun just to be back with my friends.

We got to Blacksville, South Carolina, and found our cabin Airbnb. It really did feel like it was in the middle of nowhere, but it was right next to a field of cows, so I was super excited!

Once we got settled, we decided to visit the cows. I realized I was wearing my “not your mom not your milk” shirt, which was very ironic and made me even more excited. We also explored the property a little bit and found a random archway and a well?

That night, we went out to eat somewhere our Airbnb host recommended. It was a pizza place, so I ate garlic bread without butter, and it was actually pretty tasty. After eating, we played Life back at the Cabin, then stayed up talking until we all went to sleep. I stayed awake for about 33 hours with only one rough hour of sleep, so it’s safe to say I passed out as soon as my head hit the pillow.

In the morning (December 28), we said goodbye to our little cabin and headed to North Carolina! The drive was about 4 hours, and we listened to 3 full Taylor Swift albums before giving Shane the aux cord. It felt like a long drive, but it wasn’t too bad! Once we crossed the border into North Carolina, we only had about an hour and a half left to drive!

Then we made it to our Airbnb in Wilmington! I think this was everyone’s favorite house of the trip, it was the perfect size and just super comfortable and nice. We unloaded the car and planned out what we were going to do the rest of the day, then headed out to find something to eat. We just went to Panera, but it was very tasty! Then we went to Walmart and got some groceries so we didn’t have to eat out for every meal.

That night, we drove around the city a little bit, and relaxed at home. Lauren, Shane and I gave into the memes and watched Bird Box, then eventually went to bed, ready for the next day!

Saturday morning (December 29) was beach day! We got dressed and headed to Wrightsville Beach, excited to see the ocean. It wasn’t cold- good sweater weather- and the beach was almost empty, it was really nice and so beautiful.

There were shells everywhere, so we explored for a little bit before taking some pictures. We kind of had a little photoshoot, but we all live in land-locked states, so can you blame us? (But look how cute my friends are!!)

Portrait mode is our friend.

We got some group pictures, which includes jumping and apologizing to Shane for asking him to take so many pictures of us.

And then of course I had to get some pictures with my handsome husband. I’m so thankful for him. I also really like these pictures.

We decided to walk to the other side of the beach, just to enjoy our feet in the sand, the salty windy on our hair, and soak up more ocean time. Our time on the beach was super fun, even though it was too cold to swim. Wrightsville Beach is beautiful.

We went back to the Airbnb, where I made everyone vegan grilled cheese. They all loved it, and we rested from our morning at the beach.

Later, we decided to explore the Wilmington Riverwalk we saw from our drive the night before. The sun was setting, and the weather was really nice. We just walked around for an hour. Not super exciting, but it was nice, and better than staying home and doing nothing!

Back at the Airbnb, Chey, Lauren, and Shane made a couple pizzas for dinner and I microwaved my vegan chicken strips. We watched Ellen’s standup comedy special on Netflix, which was actually very funny. Then we played a game of “Sorry” while listening to Disney music, and ended our night by watching Vines on YouTube.

The next day, we headed out to Asheville, North Carolina! I was super excited to be in the mountains for a few days, and I’ll be posting another blog post about that half of the trip very soon!
